You can learn about sports, crafts, science, trades, business, and future careers as you earn merit badges. There are more than 135 merit badges, and any Scout, or any qualified Venturer or Sea Scout may earn any of these at any time.
NYLT is a six-day, action-packed program that equips youth with essential leadership skills through hands-on learning. Designed for Scouts, the course focuses on team-based activities, presentations, discussions, and games to build confidence and leadership ability. Safeguarding Youth training is required for all Scouting America registered volunteers and is a joining requirement. Safeguarding Youth training must be taken every year. If a volunteer’s Safeguarding Youth training is not current at the time of annual registration renewal, the volunteer will not be re-registered.

IOLS is a required training course for all Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters, and recommended for any adults regularly participating in campouts. It provides practical, hands-on instruction in outdoor skills aligned with the Scouting America Handbook and rank advancement requirements from Tenderfoot to First Class.
A merit badge counselor is a responsible adult with knowledge and enthusiasm about a career, hobby or other subject who is willing to share that knowledge and enthusiasm with Scouts.
